On Katrina and the real elites

media girl's picture

Barbara Bush
There's so much to say about Katrina, King George's posing, DHS & FEMA, politically-flavored pork-barrel post-Katrina contracts, the incompetent government run by a bunch of folks who don't believe in government (unless it controls us peasants, you know)....

...but I think that during this week of remembrance, this quote of Barbara Bush seems to capture the essence of the cold heart of the right-wing. (Less Christian, more Roman in sentiment, wouldn't you say? I find it rather easy to imagine Barbara's words coming from Pontius Pilate. Traditional values indeed.)

Who's "elite"? The Hollywood actor who gets in a rowboat and tries to help people when FEMA, the New Orleans police, and the rest of the "homeland security" crowd are nowhere to be found? Or the silver-spoon crowd who claim privilege to dismiss the suffering of others?

The above was one of the most unfortunate and yet unguarded of all comments that summed up the attitude of those who live at the top. People's homes are destroyed and a populace is displace and that is "working well" for them.

Is this the same attitude that we see about what's happening in the Israel/Lebanon skirmish? People are better off when their homes are destroyed? Their possessions ruined? Homeless? Displaced?

If they think that at the top, no wonder we see the policies and attitudes we do.

This woman is the wife of one President and the mother of another. Is this the feminine counsel the presidential men in her life get?

We have managed to ship/send/mail/move/spend HOW much money overseas in GB Terms?

If we said, sorry guys, am keeping the money at home...for OUR citizens benefits how much power would GB have then?

Since we haven't FIXED the KatrinaDamage yet...how many Presidents will it take to?

Aw! Look at you! Working so hard to convince yourself that the people you support aren't morally bankrupt!

I loved this bit: "We have managed to ship/send/mail/move/spend HOW much money overseas?" - I assume you're complaining so bitterly about the money spent on aid, right? The money spent on improving peoples lives?

As opposed to that spent on guns, bullets, tanks, stealth planes, bombs, cruise missiles - that's all money well spent - right?

Right!
