How many preschoolers would see "Technical Virgin"?
That's the question I'm left when I read this:
The PBS Kids Sprout network has fired the host of "The Good Night Show" after learning she had appeared in videos called "Technical Virgin."
The host, Melanie Martinez, had alerted network officials about one of the videos late last week and she was immediately taken off the air.
"PBS Kids Sprout has determined that the dialogue in this video is inappropriate for her role as a preschool program host and may undermine her character's credibility with our audience," said Sandy Wax, network president.
What is "our audience" but preschoolers? Do you really think little Madison and Hailey and Jacob and Nicholas are likely to even hear about "Technical Virgin"?
These suits need a reality check. Or did she not properly respect "technically" some executive's check? Jus' wonderin'.

Listen, she deserved to get the sack. Anyone with two braincells in their head knows she isn't a virgin. I could tell by the way she looked at me. I've seen a few experienced women in my time and I could tell this one had been around the block. I don't want my kid being put to bed by some fornicating hussy. Has the whole world gone mad?
They sell computers to men who get their jollies surfing porn sites one-handed, so yeah, maybe the world has gone mad.
A friend of mine who has a brother and is friends with this guy, told me she is a horny bitch, he even said she had an abortion last year. I don't want her to talk to my children either
You have to be the dumbest person I have ever crossed paths with. How old are you 12? I think someone needs to write a piece about you and title it "Technical Dumbass"
Dude, wake up! She did nothing wrong except but being honest with PBS. There are tons of people out there who think that she shouldn't have been fired. If talking about sex in the past is a crime then we are all guilty and shouldn't be around children. If PBS wouldn't have made it public knowledge then nobody would know.----unless of course you were searching for some sexually orientated material to begin with!
Frankly, as long as it wasn't porno (and it sounds like it was satire), it should not have violated her "morals" clause, and if the network had ignored the hullabaloo for about 15 minutes, this would have been a nice show for her career. And yes, it frightens me that Don has children.
Hey, smart girl, the PBS network paid good money for a host. They did not pay good money for a joke. That is the simple reason why they fired Melanie Martinez. Late.
How many companies would fire you for watching porn?
That's what I thought.
Don (not verified) says:
Technical My Eye!

You have children right? And how do you suppose you got them? By fornicating with someone or a few people i assume. I don't know your situation nor do i care..She has the right to do what she pleases in her spare time..unless of course she was to become a playboy spread or have a few "Melanie does Dallas videos", that's "horse of a different color". She didn't deserve to lose her job..Did she do anything to children to provoke her release? My guess is no..People need to back off and let it go..
she's an actress.she does what she's paid for.she didn't fornicate in "the goodnight show".she's good at it and she has good charisma with children.whatever she is in real life is none of ur damn business and she shouldn't have been fired.one thing i'm sick of our society is full of hypocrisy.we all have sex,we do it anyway we want and there's nothing wrong wtih that.
What ever Melanie did in the past is done and over with. She was a fantastic host on this childrens show, my children adore her. How many parents smoke, drink, use profanity, and are involved in domestic abuse in front of thier children? kids ages 2-5 will never come in contact with the video's....give her the job back!
I have 3 children and every night, we watch the GoodNight Show. My kids absolutely love Melaney and our whole family is appalled by their decision to take her off of this show. Now that she is gone, we have not been able to enjoy the show like before, and frankly, it goes right along with the whole Steve and Joe switch on Blue's Clues on Nick Jr.
Everybody has a life outside of work and just because she didn't involve preschool material in every aspect doesn't mean she is not appropriate to be a host for this show. If any of the parents watched the content that she appeared in previously, does that mean they are not fit to be good parents to their preschoolers?
The whole idea is outrageous that she is gone and more importantly, now that we know the truth of what happened to her, what PBS did, in my opinion, is 100 times worse. Our family will not be tuning in anymore.
My family is extremely disappointed in their decision to judge Melaney for her past and not stop to think about their own.
I have sent in an email expressing exactly how I feel to PBS. I hope more of Melaney's fans write in on her behalf, just as I have, because what PBS did was wrong.
What a shame. You people at PBS whould be ashamed of yourself. No one would have ever know about this if you had not made it such a public spectical! I hope your ratings go way down!!
No one has the right to control someone elses life, in or out side of their job!
If you're angry, call Sprout president Sandy Wax. Her direct number is: 215-667-2750
What I find most interesting here is everyone being so indignant about Melanie being fired for her satire and no one recognizing Don's sarcasm.
Sometimes sarcasm isn't very obvious. And sometimes it's not as sarcastic as it seems.
I go back and forth on this somewhat. However, when I put myself in the position of a kids TV producer, I find myself agreeing with the decision to dismiss Melanie, as her activities in the "Technical Virgin" videos could have adversely affected the company's reputation and bottom line.
That said, if she is a talented children's TV host, she can probably find another show that will hire her, though probably at a wage lower than what she would like.

how and in what way would melanie adversely affect the reputation of pbs?what adversely affects their reputation is when they broadcast violent,non-educational shows and melanie has not done that nor show in her character of the show to tarnish pbs's reputation.i guess pbs advisers are composed mostly of religious self-righteuos people who over reacts or overly critical when they see their own doing from other people.what a hypocrite!
PBS receives its funding partially through donations and partly through "religious, self-righteous people" who sit in Congress. Having on PBS somebody who previously did a video entitled "Technical Virgin" is likely to affect those individuals' opinions of PBS.
Additionally, parents' groups, representing the decisionmakers in the homes of PBS's primary audience, may take Melanie's previous work into account when evaluating whether to watch PBS Sprout programming or donate money to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
Is dismissing her a bad decision? It may be. However, it is also an entirely rational, and extremely defensible, decision.

These powerful men don't like to see their sexual fantasies paraded in front of children, eh?
I'm afraid corporate telepathy isn'[t one of my abilities, so I can't comment one way or the other on the "sexual fantasies" statement.
A side note, though -- didn't Xuxa keep her job as a children's entertainer after a similar circumstance?

After hearing about her getting fired over something in her past...I looked for and watched the clip. My wife and I laughed out loud. I didn't even recognize her until I squinted my eyes and cocked my head to the right. Then I started to think: what if my 3 year old somehow got to the computer without supervision, navigated to this video, watched it and understood it? What if he realized this was the same girl that spoke to him on TV? Or worse...what if 20 years from now he finds the video and realizes his entire childhood was a sham and kills himself in shame?
I don't care if she was a pornstar previously...she's the perky Sprout girl to my family.
First their new format came along, now this.
I have to say, Melanie always kind of creeped me out. But my 2 year old daughter (soon to be 3) did not see her as creepy and that is what really mattered. From I can tell, she did not do "Porn". So, so what!? She isn't doing porn now and she not doing anything "immoral" on Sprout. I just do not feel she diserved to get fired over that.
Re: Don. I agree, hesounds like a 12 year old boy. This is the kind of crap I remember hearing from boys when I was a kid. "I could tell by the way she looked at me. I've seen a few experienced women...by some fornicating hussy" Sounds like the brovado from boys I remember when I was 12. Acting like they got laid every day. Like ever woman is a whore(especially those that don't give Don the time of day), like he would know if she was a "horny bitch". Gawd, his sexist post makes me more sick than what PBS did. The extra creepy part, if he is an adult, what kind of sick perverted fantasies did he have, while watching the show with his kids I presume, to "believe" she was hot and bothered for him on Sprout? And Don, before you go thinking I am just another fornicating hussy sticking up for my own, I have only had sex with one man, thank you very much... Don's thought to that question, "then she is probably ugly".
Just to clarify: I didn't mean to imply that she actually did porn in the past; I was just trying to say that even if she did, it doesn't matter in the NOW - as long as she isn't universally recognized for it. AFAIK she's universally recognized for Sprout.
