Feminist Media Review Initiative
When we look at what is "feminism," there is a wide diversity of opinion. We thought: What an interesting project it would be to launch a collective effort exploring how "feminism" is reflected in non-fiction books, novels, essays, movies, television shows, blogs and other websites, newspaper articles, events, and so on!
So we at Media Girl make this open call here for reviews, links to interesting websites, essays and discussions on the subject of "feminism" in the media. Whether it's on a classic must-read book or a movie you just saw, an event you attended or a news story on tv, we want to know what you think! Please share your thoughts here on mediagirl.org, or trackback your own blog posts to the appropriate subordinate page linked below.
Call for Submissions
We invite you to share your thoughts here on any and all of the various topics and subtopics here. If you know someone who might be interested in this, please pass the word. This is a viral effort and will thrive or die based on everyone's participation.
The aggregation of this content will happen here, in this virtual "book" comprised of virtual chapters and the various posts contained therein, so that visitors can simply browse from page to page through the content.
Topics
Topics of discussion are broken down to more specific areas of what we call "the media." More specific descriptions can be found in the respective areas of discussion. If you would like to suggest other topical areas, please feel free to comment below, or use the feedback form.
Submission Procedure
You can just register and post. That's it! Your post immediately will be visible to other visitors.
Periodically, we will link to this "book" any new posts relevant to this initiative. That means your relevant post will be cross-linked with this "book." The URLs of your posts will not be changed by this; your posts will continue to be accessible directly or via other browsing paths on this site.
Obviously there will be occasions where a given post might easily fall into any of several categories. In these instances, we'll try to go with the main thrust of the posting.
Formats
We have created new content types to facilitate many of these types of posts and discussions, such as "movie review," "book review," "television review," and so on. These options will appear when you click the "create" button up top. We can add more post types, with specific structures, as needed. If nothing seems to fit, please just use the "personal blog" type and write away. Also, you can suggest new formats in comments below.
Note: To avoid the usual spamming concerns, you must be registered here to post a new review or essay. However, if you have a LiveJournal or Drupal account, you can use that to log in.)
Comments Encouraged
We hope that visitors will share their comments on the various topics and posts. As always, unregistered users can comment on existing posts.
Links and Trackbacks Welcome!
What use is the internet if we don't make use of the interactive tools available? In addition to posts made here, we welcome comments and trackbacks linking to other blogs and communities discussing these topics. (If possible, please add the comment/trackback to the book page or post that is most appropriate.)
Workflow and Updates
To keep up, you can just bookmark this entry and come back here periodically and browse through. Or you can bookmark the feminism topic page to see the latest posts here that have the "feminism" tag. There you can also subscribe to that page's RSS/XML feed.
The Small Print
All writings remain copyright of their respective owners. No spam, no trolling, no flame wars; all such will be deleted without notice. All participants must adhere to the Terms of Service.

Hopefully this can become just one mini-portal for discussion of feminism and the media.
Thank you!
