It seems like things are pretty well in the toilet right now with George W. and the Republican legacy.
The economy was screwed up by Nixon and Ford. Carter wasn't a great president, imho, but he was handed a crappy economy by Republican price fixing and -- oh yes -- not one but two oil crises.
Then the economy was stomped on by Reagan, who killed all the renewable energy tax cuts -- yes, Reagan cut the tax cuts -- and pulled out the credit card so we could pretend to be well off while the country added trillions of dollars of debt.
Bush the elder inherited the huge deficit spending and drove us into a recession.
Then Clinton came into office and led the effort to balance the budget, while making government more effective in many areas (like FEMA).
Then we got George and where do we start? The biggest government in history. The biggest deficits in history. The biggest debt that just gets bigger and bigger. The worst foreign policy disaster in American history. Incompetent cronies running essential agencies. Billions of dollars missing in sweetheart contractor deals to Halliburton and others. Massive bankruptcies and housing foreclosures. Spying on U.S. citizens. Torture. Global respect and admiration for America transformed into fear, contempt, mistrust and hatred of America.
All the while with Republicans crying that the important issues are gay marriage, restricting birth control and sending 12 million immigrants to Mexico.
Yeah, let's be afraid of Democrats! Yeah, right. Uh huh.
