Words to face an asshat, and other vadgistic linguistics

If you haven't yet seen BAM Vagazine, go there right after reading this post. BAM stands for "Bitch And Moan." What's a "vagazine," you ask? BAM is one.

My personal fave is the Words are Weapons section:

Genderalizations (n)

Sweeping statements based on gender groups. Certain BAM staffers may be prone to oft-genderalizing.

Usage: "Excessive genderalizing may indicate that a woman has emotionally "bottomed out," and feels her needs are being ignored."

e.g. "Guys are stupid. Chicks are crazy. Get a helmet."

I know that's something I've done here. Yes yes -- I'm a genderalist! So sue me!

Slashie (n)

Musician/artist/writer/designer/photographer/etc.; person who deludes themselves (and others) into thinking that they have time to date even though their multiple interests and projects preclude them from having the time to do more than call and cancel plans, often many hours after the fact.

Usage: "I met this awesome guy, but I can already tell he's a slashie - he'll be blowing me off for band practice, or to stay in and write, in no time."

I have a different word for that: flake. I might add that slashies aka flakes are usually Pisces.

Dirty Stayout (n)

A person, of either gender, whose sexual practices are sluttish in nature; one who sleeps around with impunity, and goes to work dirty because they have stayed out all night.

Usage: "Did you see that the new freelancer came in today wearing the same outfit as yesterday?" "I know! What a dirty stayout!"

Got others? They want to hear from you. glossary@bitchingandmoaning.org Personally, I'd like to see the modern classic "fucktard" esconced in the marble of more dictionaries.

P.S. -- If you saw this post do the disappearing act, it's because I had a lame-ass title that I just couldn't stand. Perhaps I should be more potensive

I'm offering this up to our editor for addition to our Words are Weapons glossary.

Feminaphobia: when women who believe in reproductive rights, equal pay, the right not to be raped, beaten or abused, expect not to be harassed and be offered the same economic opportunities as men refuse to call themselves “feminists b/c they wish to distance themselves from those “man-hating, no make-up wearing feminazis of the past women’s movements. Also known as post modern feminism.

i really hate the expression "post-modern feminist" as I see it used. But if I'm wrong and PMF is a perfectly suitable expression, I'd love to hear about it.

...and perhaps a disctinction could be made from "femiphobia" -- when men fear appearing feminine.

like that new beer commercial (can't remember which one) where the husband is crushed by some large beer can b/c he's not manly enough? There are two so far. I'll try to write it down when I see it.

...macho posturing because it's "tough" and "manly." I mean macho fear of showing any emotion but rage. I mean fear of showing gentleness.

"You're a pussy!"

"You're a girly man!"

"You cry like a woman!"

Fear of appearing feminine in any way.
