Sisyphus gets tired
That rock gets heavy. One inane thing after another coming in from the radicals in the right wing. It's like it will never end.
As someone who always considered herself a moderate, I'm surprised to find myself so far to the left of what passes for politics and policy in the Republican ranks. But they get crazier and crazier. I mean, let's face it -- if Bill Frist were your cousin, you'd be talking to your family about institutionalization options. The man is crazy. Nutso. How else can you explain the way he and his radical compadres have embraced hate and bigotry and call it religion? I also love how they consider ethics to be something only Democrats should adhere to. Or how they now are itching to tear down the greatest pillars of our society because they don't like them.
Why shouldn't they be allowed to create a theocratic dictatorship? They won the last election, didn't they? Isn't it their right to declare that there shall be no more elections? Isn't it their right to declare that the First Amendment is a haven for traitors? Isn't it their right to rewrite history like a bunch of Communists, so that children will be raised to believe that the Constitution is an evil hoax and what we really have here is a Christian empire? Isn't it their right to declare reality as too liberal, so facts now shall have no place in science education?
What's even more disgusting is how the Democrats have yet to find their spines. Or maybe they really are just Republicans in cheaper suits.
As a business owner, I find it disgusting how our government panders to the big foreign (aka "multinational") corporations. Corporate welfare and corporate protectionism are not what our country needs right now. They aren't what our economy needs right now.
But what can we do? The corporatocracy has bought and paid for our government. We have virtually no input. Note how all those inside-the-Beltway types talk about the American people as "they." The Beltway types do not identify with us. They do not understand us. They use us, and otherwise do what they will.
It's pretty damned disheartening, watching the news every day and seeing yet another outrage the powerful have perpetrated on us, the powerless.
Apologists for the right will say we should be grateful for their abuses, as if their corruption and raping of our country is what makes America great -- which is something like being thankful for dog crap because it makes the flowers smell all the better.
Anyway, I'm disgusted -- all the more so because this is exactly the reaction they want. They want us all to get so dispirited by their outrages that we just check out. That way they can run roughshod over the country.
Well, the damn rock is getting heavy, and sometimes I do get pretty damned tired. I'd like to think that the elections next year will spell out a change in the political tide. But there are enough voters out there who really want to be fooled by these wingnuts. They want to believe that America can just go kick anyone's ass. They want to believe that the entire world is out to get them. They want to believe that sexual insecurity is strength. They want to believe that hate and judgment are moral values. How many of these people will wake up? Or stay home on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November 2006? I don't know.
But it's pretty disgusting that, when all is said and done, we have the political leadership we deserve. Bend over, America. The pricks won, and they want their reward.

m.g.,
You have gone right to the heart of the sickening situation we now face in this country. We've been taken over by brutal idiots. They act very much like the Taliban, and are equally hard to get rid of.
It seems that stupidity and viciousness are contagious, especially when they pose as god-like virtues. It is just SO much fun to go around casting the first stone, over and over and over.
The result is something like mob rule, with people's worst instincts taking over. Historically, such periods have been limited in duration. Eventually there is a buildup of bad consequences, people get angry, and they throw the bums out.
How long that might take is anyone's guess. Meanwhile, the country faces extremely serious problems, which are rapidly worsening through neglect and malfeasance. As a result, it seems possible that these truly evil people may succeed in destroying the 230-year-old experiment known as the United States of America.
Sensing your frustration, it's time you took a look at our list - Top Ten Right Wing Sounds For Spring - since sound is instinct, that will tell you why that rock is getting heavier and louder.j/k
People are taking notice at how the Republicans are driving liberty, freedom, free economy etc. into the ground. It may take a while longer since the democrats seem afraid of taking the reblious path, but it will happen soon, and I can barly wait!
Just curious - maybe something is wrong, but this blog page always seems to move slow - is it because of the operating system? Dunno.
Democracy is a Bitch ..huh?
A combination of a low SQL server, and performance issues relating to some configurations on the site in this current incarnation.
An upgrade is going to happen soon, which hopefully will address two of the three contributing factors, with the third happening shortly therafter.
Everything also is slowed down drastically by Blogrolling, Bloglines and TTLB. Third-party lists are becoming less and less appealing.
