Those controvertial international women's reproductive rights again

Repeal of the Global Gag Rule passed -- good news for women all over the world who suffered by being political footballs for American conservatives. But what's really astonishing is that 46 Senators voted against it. Apparently 46% of our elected Senators feel that all women -- including women in other countries, suffering in ways these old white men in the Capitol seem to be unable to appreciate -- should be prevented from taking responsibility for their own reproduction and exercising control over their own health decisions.

With "freedom on the march," these same white men make a big show of trumpeting how women voted in Iraq, but this vote here reveals the lie to their claimed support of equality for women.

No, they see human women as mares, meant to breed with the stallions. The idea that women are entitled to human rights, private dignity and personal autonomy is just beyond the pale in their eyes.

Meanwhile our government health subsidy plans are providing insurance coverage for Viagra. God damn the harlot, but God praise the erection!

I guess that pretty much sums up my take on this latest development in the Bush administration's Christian Jihad. It just gets more disgusting every day. I wonder how many of those 46 senators have sprung a little money out of petty cash to cover the unexpected "medical" expenses for that sweet young thang that masquerades as an aide? Nothing, but nothing stands in the way of the zealots in their squealing frenzy to advance the kingdom of the baby Jesus. I have a therapeutic exercise that I do now on a weekly basis. It goes like this: My "Sweetbriar class of '47" mother who lives in Houston Tx is a bible believing, Bush voting, hood ornament for the country club, evangelical set. She likes to think of herself as such a loving person. You know, the type that "loves the sinner but hates the sin." Corresponds with "Barbara" and volunteers at the "charity ward" of the hospital once a month. When I find myself gagging on the latest Bush administration abomination (this was a busy week, what with Bolton, Negroponte, and Delay)I like to call and chat for a bit, just "good roads, good weather" kind of fluff. And then, at the most strategically optimun point in the conversation, I pull the lever and mark my target as the bombay doors open wide. . . like shooting ducks on a pond on a clear day. (not that I have ever shot a duck or any other type of water fowl)I push the button and smile as my cargo of death is released on the ususpecting enemy.

"Mom, why does your church want to kill gay people?" The first wave of bombs releases the fury of a ten thousand sticks of dynamite on the heavily defended enemy bunker. A direct hit! "Lauren, how could you say such a thing to your mother?" Wait, I think I hear "pom pom" of the anti-aircraft guns below.

I circle back over my target and release another deadly load, "Mom, you know Jimmy's gay. (1st cousin)So how do you feel on Sundays when you here that hair-spray queen of a pastor of yours spew out the hate and vile until it fills the ears of the little children in the congregation and plants the seeds of even more hate towards Jimmy. Do you ever see his face, Mom?"

"I am not that way, and you know it" comes the terse reply. "Yep, I do, but you might as well be because you sit in that so-called house of God and defile the holy spirit of Christ by not saying anything."

I'm low on fuel by now and it's back to the white cliffs of Dover as I see the flames rise above the burning city of Dresden behind me. I ask myself if I have been too hard on her. Should I just pretend that the hate doesn't exist? Then I think about Jimmy and the scars he carries (emotional and physical) because of who he is and I fix my eyes straight ahead and begin to plan my next mission.

Ole Blue The Heretic's picture

A woman’s body is her own sovereign entity and she should be able to do what she wants with it that entity, for she is the ruler, the one and only sovereign ruler of that body, no one else is responsible for the body.
