Skype out the telecoms

Over the past few days I've been playing with Skype, freeware for talking over the internet for free! That's right, this isn't some service charging you up the whatever for what essentially can and should be free. It is free.

It's also secure, according to their website:

Nobody’s listening in.

When it comes to talking, instant messaging or transferring files, we’ve gone to great lengths to make it secure. Skype automatically encrypts everything before sending it through the internet. Likewise, on arrival everything is decrypted on-the-spot and presented as crystal clear speak, text or a file transfer nobody can intercept.
Skype calls are in excellent quality, better than regular phones.

It's worth checking out. Matsu and I have been using it for the past couple of days. Sometimes the traffic backs up and there's a hiccup, but overall this is easier than speakerphone. And it's free. Gotta like that.

Oh, and I'm not going to post my Skype Me here. Anyone really interested can try contacting me via feedback.

I should also in the interest of full disclosure that I have been paid nothing at all to plug this software. C'mon! It's free, for crying out loud!

Oh, I love Skype. My parents introduced me to it -- they use it to talk to my brother in Denmark.

And, in addition, you can use it to call someone's landline for 2 cents a minute. Since my SO lives in Canada, this has come in *very* handy.
