Touched

We've been nominated for Best New Blog. I'd show off my principles by insisting nobody vote for medigirl.org, but it seems to be a juried prize. Also, the nomination process seems to be open, so aside from the flattering fact that one somebody nominated medigirl.org, even the nomination is virtually meaningless.

Still, I confess a bit of interest in drawing a broader flow of traffic than the current narrow (perhaps deep) trickles. Were those tingly feelings I felt when mediagirl.org slithered up through the phyla from "insignificant microbe" to "crawly amphibian" in the TTLB Ecosphere? 'Twas nothing compared with the little warm glow I felt upon discovering the blogroll links from ms.musings and Rox Populi and Chepooka and feministe and Ms. Geek (who was linking to the older media girl site) and my favorite chuckle place, the blog of the Manolo -- not to mention mediagirl.org's having been only one of three female-authored blogs on the news feed for Rob's Long Road to Paradise, thanks in large part to the insights of our own Matsu.

Of course, what is this blog post but transparent self-promotion? How much of blogging is just vanity?

It's nice to be a part of a group. I miss that aspect of my Xanga days. We at media girl are feminist bloggers, and otherwise just some more voices in this massive blogosphere. We rant about what's important to us, or just blogificate on what draws our attention, giggles or ire. As a new site just a month old, I'm thrilled at the amount of attention we've already received. But I do have hopes that more women (and men, too) will join and contribute to this community, and that more of our current members will clear the frogs in their throats.

'Tis the holiday season, and for me, personally, travel is on the agenda for the next 10 days, so my own blogging will be lite, if not lightweight. (I'll likely get all worked up about something or other in the car and post a rant from the motel room about tailgating on icy roads or the contempt fast food chains hold for our own health.)

Time to get busy and pack and stuff.

I found an enormous jump in recognition whe I moved off of blogspot too. Those of use that host our own sites are snobs. Soon you'll be a snob too.

Congrats on the nomination!
