Election mysteries, the miniseries (cont'd)

Lawrence Lessig has posted a very interesting graphic showing the "shift" in 4pm exit poll data vs. actual election results. He tabs it an "academic puzzle," which seems apt.

But am I the only one who, upon listening to Secretary of State Colin Powell speak of the election results in the Ukraine, felt those words resonate so much regarding our own recent election? To me, the real concern is not so much a question of who won the election, but who's running the elections. Public accountability of all these electronic voting and counting machines seems so much an afterthought, it makes me wonder:Â Who's been minding the store?

You know how it is. The radio or TV clicks on. It's the middle of the story. The speaker has stopped repeated the name of the place or person - just giving the story. I thought it was about Ohio and I could not understand why busloads of Poles would be coming to protest the results.

A wag once said about oral contracts that "they aren't worth the paper they're printed on.." When we lost the paper ballot in this nation, we lost more than we'll ever know - think about it.
