The Two American Factions - Cowboys and Yankees
In late 1970's when the "New Republic" was still a lefty rag, JEB wrote an interesting piece. There are two political parties, but they straddle the Republican and Democratic parties and he dubbed them the "Yankees" and the "Cowboys."
The Yankees are patrician, old money. The Cowboys are buccaneers - new money. The Yankees are Eastern and financial while the Cowboys are Western and are like oil men. He went through some United States Presidents and it is interesting who is what and I add some since.
Roosevelt - Yankee
Truman - Cowboy
Eisenhower - Cowboy
Kennedy - Yankee
Johnson - Cowboy
Nixon - Cowboy
Ford - Cowboy
Carter - Yankee
Reagan - Cowboy
Bush I - Cowboy
Clinton - Yankee
Bush II - Cowboy
When Neo-Cons (New Confederates) say "liberal" they mean Yankee. And the Neo-cons are Cowboys.
